Keeping it (inter)professional: A Journey through (and toward) Trauma-Informed & Neuro- Affirming Service, Scholarship, Advocacy, & Mentorship

Clinical psychologist Jason Fogler’s goal is to help young people and their caregivers become informed, empowered, and independent so they can lead fulfilling lives while managing neurobiological health conditions that are often lifelong.

His career has taken him through school and community mental health settings, private practice, a rigorous T32 research training program focused on posttraumatic stress disorders, and ultimately Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. His work also extends to the wider communities of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) and the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (SDBP).

Across these settings, he has learned the value of working with professionals from different disciplines to address the complex questions raised by co-occurring psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders, often shaped by adverse experiences and toxic stress. His trauma-informed, neuro-affirming approach to clinical work, scholarship, advocacy, and leadership draws on Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Stephen Finn’s Therapeutic Assessment, and theories of cognitive and psychosocial development.
