Hi Sean! Only lavender essential oils were used in my study to keep it more controlled. Although for future research, it would be interesting to see if other essential oils produce the same results.

This is such a fantastic study! Thanks for helping to de-stigmatize menstruation.
This is really interesting! I’m wondering if you controlled somehow for participants who might have more painful, irregular, or heavy menstrual cycles and how they talked about their body and their cycles? I’m thinking particularly about women with hormonal issues, such as PCOS, which can cause both weight gain and irregular and painful menstrual cycles.
Thank you! I found that women who talked about having negative experiences with their body and menstruation (such as bad PMS symptoms, negative experiences with contraception, negative experiences with their first period, etc.) talked more negatively about their menstrual cycles. I did find many of the participants who mentioned negative experiences with menstruation also talked about their periods having negative impacts on their body, physically and mentally. I did not control these participants, but coded their experiences as negative language and looked for a change in how they talked about their experiences after the aromatherapy session. I did find that there was less negative language used to describe participants experiences after the aromatherapy session.

also wondering if you controlled for demographic factors, such as race and ethnicity, particularly when talking about body image
This is a very interesting research. I was wondering if you utilized aromatherapy with oils other than lavender in your study?

I collected demographic information from participants, but did not control these factors.
Thank you for sharing your research and presenting at NEPA!
Thank you!
I love the representative quotes you picked for your results!
Thank you so much, Valerie!
Great work, Michaela! The poster looks great and provides such a great overview of your study!
Thank you so much! Could not have done it without your help and guidance!
It’s really exciting to see research being done on menstrual health! Thank you for this
Thank you so much! Menstrual health and stigmatization are topics often overlooked but should be more prevalent in current research!
