This is a really interesting topic. I like your study design and I’m surprised you didn’t find anything significant. Did you have data quality checks for your Mturk participants? If not, that might explain your null findings. I’ve switched from Mturk to Prolific because I regularly had to delete 10%+ of my Mturk participants for being bots, but I’ve never identified a bot on Prolific yet. You might try a similar study on Prolific or another site without many bots to see what you find. I also think it might be worth running a correlational study with frequency of canceling plans and feeling relief, since in this experimental design the participants aren’t actually choosing whether or not to cancel.
