Congratulations Yuening! The poster and presentation look excellent.
Thank you so much! I appreciate all your help in this whole year!
Thank you for sharing your research and presenting at NEPA! Very interesting to consider differences in self/identity perception in relation to culture. Are there differences in language/meaning that might explain some differences versus culture-setting-location?
Congratulations on meaningful research and an informative presentation!
Thanks for your insightful comments. With regard to differences in language/meaning, all measures in the current study were back-translated by a translator fluent in both English and Chinese. The original and the back-translated versions were compared for accuracy and any small adjustments were then applied to the translated version. Besides the language of administration, measures and instructions were identical across cultures.
Very fascinating! Thanks for sharing. I’m teaching Cross-Cultural this term so I’d love to incorporate this into my course. What would you want students to know about your study if I included it? What would be the key take-home?
Thank you for your interest in my study. I appreciate it if you would like to share it with your students. I would say the key take-home of this study is that self-defining memories play an important role in individuals’ narrative identity, students in both countries relating their SDMs as highly important and frequently recalled. While the affect of SDMs and its relationship to personality were different in the two samples. Besides, the difference in memory content contributes to a greater understanding of the impact of the current educational system on Chinese secondary students and how these experiences are recorded in their narrative identities. Hope it is helpful for you.
